Radiation Therapy/Cancer Treatment

Cancer is treated using intense radiation energy to eradicate cancer cells. Precise beams are aimed directly at the cancer, while otherwise protecting the healthy tissue. The most common machine is called a linear accelerator (LINAC). To contain the radiation and provide access to the vault, sliding or swinging doors are built out of lead or concrete. These doors can weigh anywhere between 2000-200,000 lbs., depending on the energy level. Brookfield Industries offers heavy duty hinges and door operators to the door OEM or the shielding contractor.

Industrial Radiation

Industrial x-ray equipment scans for internal defects (non-destructive testing) in a critical component or part that if left undetected may cause failure. The high energy levels generated by x-rays require shielded enclosures to contain the radiation. Access doors are constructed of heavy lead bricks or concrete. Typical industries using this equipment: aerospace, energy pipelines (gas and oil), automotive parts.

Secure Entrances

From private buildings to public and government facilities, including embassies, securing the entrance point has become increasingly important for protecting the occupants against crime and terrorism throughout the world. These doors are designed to be architecturally appealing while providing the required level of security against physical attacks. They may range from a simple metal framed door with bullet-proof glass to the more sophisticated forced entry/ bullet resistant (FEBR) doors. In addition, the security perimeter may extend beyond the exterior of the building; thus, providing an additional barrier with secure entrance gates.

Brookfield Industries offers heavy duty hinges and door operators/ door closers to the door/gate OEM providing ease of operation for many years of trouble-free life…

Acoustical

Doors specifically designed to reduce sound transmission through and around the opening, which requires special construction and sealing characteristics. Doors can range in size from personnel (3’-0 x 7’-0) single swing to much larger double openings (6-8’ wide x 10-20’ tall), and can be difficult to operate because of the weight, size, acoustical seals, and lifting action. Performance ratings, standardized by ASTM, are called Sound Transmission Class (STC). Typical industries using this equipment: Television or network studios, theatre and concert halls, recording studios, or any opening requiring a sound barrier such as a conference room.

EMI/RF Shielding

Heavy duty doors designed to reduce electromagnetic interference that can adversely affect the functionality of electronic devices on the shielded side of the door. This can result in door weights and operating forces to be extremely high. Typical Industries: medical, military, universities, testing laboratories.

Petrochemical

Facilities used to refine or process petroleum or natural gas require heavy duty doors designed to contain potential blast loads from entering the safe side of the structure. We provide door manufacturers and OEMs heavy duty hinges and operators.
